Inspiring Journey of Women Auto-Rickshaw

In India Female auto driver are present but they are not very common till now still there is dominating male auto rickshaws.  

Today travelling at home I took an auto and the auto rickshaw driver was female its really feels good that traditional of male auto rickshaw driver gender role is breaking its was a tradition that an auto was drive by male. This is a significant step towards gender equality and economic empowerment. 

First auto-rickshaw driver

Shila Dawre became India’s first woman auto-rickshaw driver in 1988. There are also initiatives like “Pink Autos” in some cities, which are specifically designed to be run by and for women. 

Chaya Mohite Mumbai’s first female auto drivers to make use of a government scheme aimed at empowering women, she said This job is much better than doing household work. I can make more money and it helps us secure our futures

She is a mother of three and spent 2 months learning how to drive and skilled herself with a financial prospect she earns 1000 rupes a day she feels now independent

In some cities of india pink rickshaw for female passenger city like Mumbai, thane female auto rickshaw driver are using pink auto-rickshaw to stop that black and yellow ones.

 1. Mumbai’s Pink Autos:  Mumbai has a project where women are provided with pink auto-rickshaws, which has been a source of pride and empowerment for the drivers. 

2. Chennai’s Women Auto Drivers– A group called Veera Pengal Munnetra Sangam is working to improve working conditions and financial benefits for women drivers in Chennai. This group operates like a transport company, offering transport contracts and other benefits like Provident Fund (PF) and Employee State Insurance (ESI). 

3. Bangalore’s Namma Yatri Initiative:  Namma Yatri app partnered with the Bangalore police to induct 1,000 women auto drivers in six months, demonstrating the growing support for female drivers. 

As a female auto-rickshaw is not an easy task they are some challenges related safety , family support any many more.

Still it’s a powerful stride toward equality and empowerment.
